[Sanford News] Back in Hoskins

Hi again everyone,

We are finally back here in Hoskins and getting settled back into life here on the center.  We had a great time in the bush at Gergering and were sad to leave the people there.  We were able to make some great friendships and advance in our Pidgin fluency.  What a privilege it was to interact with these tribal believers and see their commitment to serve the Lord and take the Gospel to those who have never heard.  It was an experience we will not soon forget.  It was a great affirmation to us of this ministry that God has brought us here to do.  Just before we left Gergering we were able to get our 2nd language evaluation which went very well.  We both have progressed and things seem to be moving ahead well as far language study goes.

As soon as we got back here to Hoskins, we were able to meet up with the guys here who went on the initial survey to New Ireland.  We were very excited to hear about the survey and get all the information from the different villages that they visited.  They were able to go to 13 villages on both the east and west coasts of New Ireland, visiting 5 different language groups.  If you would like to read a little about the survey, take a look at this article from the ntm.org website - http://www.ntm.org/news/4164.  Right now we are trying to plan and prepare for a follow-up survey to some of the more interested villages.  Please be praying for us in this time.  There is tons of information to weigh and think through, and many decisions to be made.  These are major decisions that will impact the rest of our lives, so we really covet your prayers in this.

Another prayer request for us is our boat situation.  Most of you know that we have been moving ahead in getting a boat for supplying ourselves on New Ireland.  We have been running into a snag in getting it shipped over to us here in Hoskins.  We have been trying to get it over here for over a month now and it just hasn’t worked out.  It is a big enough boat that it takes a large truck to transport it to the wharf where it will be shipped from.  Please pray that it would be picked up and taken to the wharf soon so we can get it here and start the work of fixing it up and getting it ready.

Hopefully this afternoon I will be able to post some pictures of our time in Gergering on our blogsite.  If you get a chance in the next day or so, drop by and give it a look.  Thanks so much for your part in our lives.  We have been very busy and I am afraid it will only get crazier as the days go by.  We don’t thank you enough for your prayers, financial support, and partnership in this ministry.  Please know that we are deeply grateful for the part you play!

More to come…
